Is Spring Coming Early 2025 Groundhog Day. According to tradition, if a groundhog sees his shadow upon waking up on groundhog day there will be six more weeks of winter weather. Since a groundhog (or woodchuck or whistle pig) hibernates for the winter, its coming out of the ground is a natural sign of spring.

It is said that if the groundhog casts no shadow when he comes out of his burrow, thereby casting no shadow than spring will come early. If on this day a groundhog emerges from its winter burrow and its sunny, it will see its shadow and retreat back into the burrow, and the winter will last for six more weeks.
